MiDAS – Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme
It is essential that anyone who wants to drive a local authority or community transport minibus completes this training course. It offers training of a high standard to non-professional drivers of minibuses of 16 seats or less. It covers legal, practical and safety issues and provides a comprehensive training package which aims to improve passenger safety by providing the skills and information for passenger assistants to understand and meet the needs of their passengers. The one day course involves a classroom session, followed by a driving assessment (this is not a test). On passing the course a MiDAS certificate is awarded which is valid for four years. For those whose certificate has expired, a refresher course is available. Optional modules are also available on topics like motorway driving, tail lift operation, first aid and securing wheelchairs.
